President Donald Trump Criticizes Supreme Court Justices as “Disloyal” to the Constitution

President Donald Trump sharply criticized several justices of the U.S. Supreme Court after the court struck down his reciprocal tariff policy, calling them “unpatriotic” and “disloyal” to the Constitution.

“I feel very ashamed of some of the Supreme Court justices because they did not have the courage to do what was right for the country,” Trump said at the White House on February 20. “They are very unpatriotic and disloyal to our Constitution.”

In what observers described as one of his most forceful attacks yet against the high court — including justices he previously nominated — Trump also labeled them “foolish and weak.”

His remarks followed a 6–3 ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States declaring his sweeping global tariff policies unlawful.

Chief Justice John Roberts, along with conservative justices Amy Coney Barrett and Neil Gorsuch, joined the court’s three liberal justices in the majority. The decision is widely viewed as Trump’s first major judicial setback since returning to the White House in January 2025, despite the court’s conservative majority.

When asked whether he regretted nominating Barrett and Gorsuch, Trump declined to answer directly.

“I don’t want to talk about that,” he said. “I think their decision was terrible. I think it’s a shame for the two of them and for their families.”

Social Media Response and Allegations

In a post on Truth Social later that day, Trump described the ruling as “truly disappointing.” He accused Democratic-appointed justices of “automatically voting against anything that makes America great again,” adding that they were “a disgrace to the nation.”

He also suggested that other justices believed they were making a politically advantageous decision, claiming such behavior had happened “far too often in the past.” Trump further criticized them for appeasing “Republicans In Name Only (RINOs)” and the “radical left Democrats.”
